Today in class we finished reading the rest of “Two Kinds” by Amy tan. The story was still continuing its message of the mother and daughter rocky relationship. It spoke about how the mother would compare her daughter to her cousin and try to get her daughter to be better than her cousin. The mother put tons of pressure on the daughter about playing the piano. One night the daughter had to perform the piano and she did horribly, the mother was embarrassed and disappointed in her and that caused an argument to where the daughter shouted at her about her past in china where she lost all her kids by death. Their relationship became even more broken in estranged. Until on her birthday her mother gave her back her piano as a peace offering but soon later died. By the end of the story the mother had missed playing piano and missed her mother, but she was well aware of the person that she wanted to be and so she became it. Today I learned that having a good relationship with your parent ...

Assignment blog for two kinds

Think about a time when you were in conflict with your parents, what is the conflict and how did you handle it? What did you learn about yourself. How did the relationship develop it’s your parents progress from that point?     One time me and my mom got into an altercation because she didn’t trust me to go out with friends. I handled it very poorly, I yelled at her and said things I weren’t proud of. I felt as though she didn’t treat me with the same fairness of my brother because he would always go out and every time I would ask she would always tell me no. So I felt as though she was choosing favorites and that really hurt me but I turned the hurt into anger and I yelled at her. I learned about myself that I have a serious anger problem lol, but I also learned that I need to better control my mouth when I’m mad. After the altercation she had a sit down talk and she assured me that she doesn’t have any favorites and that she does trust me, she just didn’t want me ...

Today we read half of “two kinds” by Amy tan. The story was about a rocky relationship between a mother and her daughter. So far this story talks about how the mother is trying everything in her power to make her daughter treat. She goes through different careers and activities, such as she wanted her to be a concert pianist so she found her a teacher and a piano to practice on everyday of the week. Another one was she wanted her daughter to be like Shirley temple so she took her daughter to go get her hair cut just like Shirley temple haircut. She was giving her ideas and things to do but she didn’t want her to be perfect or a genius she wanted he to do the best she could and succeed at it. In the mist of this, the daughter looked in the mirror one day and she saw a side of her that she liked, she began to come into the person that she longed to be. So she gave up on caring wha their mother said in order to see if there would be any change in her mom’s obsessive altitude. There s...

Blog of August 26, 2024- 7th period

Today in class was pretty chill. We got an assignment and were introduced to our vocabulary words that come from the poem “two kinds” that we will be reading. I knew most of the words. Some I weren’t quite sure. But the assignment helped me understand the meaning of those words.

“Im nobody” presentations , August 23rd blog

Today we did presentations on our “I’m nobody” group projects. We discussed the meanings of the message behind the poem. We also discussed the tone of the poem and societal norms. How certain people don’t follow societal norms in peruse to be themselves. Such as being a “nobody” is acceptable to them speaker of the poem. We talked about what it meant for the people to try to hide and fit in with society instead of coming out and being their selves.
