As we think about Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your faovorite word and how often do you use it?

 Prompt response:my favorite word Right now is “teaaa”. This is my favorite word because it describes me lol. I like to say that I’m verily tea. Basically it’s a new generation word that we’ve changed the definition to mean that the person is gorgeous basically. I use this word almost every single day.

Summary: In today’s class we did an activity using a new set of vocabulary words. Our task was to fill in the blanks of the sentences that correctly match the words, create our own sentences using a few of the words and create a short creative story using 3 of the words. Today’s assignment helped me better understand these words. I only knew what 2 of the words meant on the entire list. Todays lesson allowed me to add some words to my vocabulary.

Reflection: Todays assignment helped ment allowed me to add some words to my vocabulary. I didn’t know any of these words an I feel as though I can take them with me in my daily life to sound more sophisticated and language oriented.

 Prompt Response: A film that portrays my culture is the Pixar movie “Soul”, this movies portrays aspects of black African American culture. This film captures the vibrancy of black culture through its depiction jazz, barbershop culture and community life in New York. Soul introduces global audiences to the richness of black culture in a way that is both respectful and celebratory.  Summary: Today was an easy class. Today our task was to present our project on cultural and their stereotypes negative and positive. As I watched everyone’s presentation I learned a lot about the dangers of a single story. I learned that you shouldn’t follow stereotypes of any kind. You should get to know the person as a whole and not based off of these stereotypes. Stereotypes can be very dangerous in the media. Describe a time when you had to speak in front of an audience. What were your fears? How did you handle them? What advice would you give to someone struggling with stage fright?

 Prompt response: A time that I had to speak in front of an audience is when I was giving a testimony at church. I was nervous shy and nervous but also determined to get my message out and what I had came upon. I handled them by swallowing my spit, putting my chest out, counting down from 5 and took a deep breathe. Some advice that I would give someone is to not look directly at the crowd, try to look at a wall straight ahead or another object straight ahead that way you won’t be nervous having to look at everybody and their facial expressions.  Summary: today in class we took notes on formal and informal language and when to use it. We practiced some practice questions to get us familiar with it and when each situation it should be used.
