Consider a film that portrays your culture. Reflect on how accurately your culture is represented and the potential impacts of this portrayal.

Prompt Response: A film that portrays my culture is the Pixar movie “Soul”, this movies portrays aspects of black African American culture. This film captures the vibrancy of black culture through its depiction jazz, barbershop culture and community life in New York. Soul introduces global audiences to the richness of black culture in a way that is both respectful and celebratory.

Summary: Today was an easy class. Today our task was to present our project on cultural and their stereotypes negative and positive. As I watched everyone’s presentation I learned a lot about the dangers of a single story. I learned that you shouldn’t follow stereotypes of any kind. You should get to know the person as a whole and not based off of these stereotypes. Stereotypes can be very dangerous in the media. Films and tv shows can impact the way we all perceive each other. We ended the class period we completing our blog posts.

Reflection: Today I learned how significant the dangers of a single story can be. Especially when it comes to films and tv shows/movies/ the media. We shouldn’t focus and live by stereotypes of each culture. Such as the negative stereotypes of how black people love chicken and watermelon. Chicken is not actually finger licking good. Some black people actually don’t like chicken (me for example, I find it disgusting). Today’s lesson is highly important when it comes to tackling hard life decisions. This lesson that I learned today can help me academically, family wise, and friends wise. She shouldn’t let stereotypes shape the way we perceive others.
