Describe when you had a moment of unexpected kindness.

Prompt Response: I’ve had plenty of moments of unexpected kindness. When I was a younger girl I was playing in the neighborhood but I was bored being by myself. So I saw a group of girls, they were white. The game they were playing looked really funny and I wanted to join in on the fun. So I ran over to them and they just stopped and staring at me in means ways and asked me why was I over there, they don’t want to play with me. I told my mom about it and she said they were probably racist and judging me because of my color that I was darker than them. They saw themselves as precious and high maintained because they were lighter and were told to by their parents.

Summary: Today in class we read an article called colorism in India. I learned a lot from this article. It spoke on colorism challenges within India. The darker Indian would get laughed at and teased because of their darker complexion. The lighter Indians were seen as higher statues and successful. And they even had problems on india media platforms because of filters being of colorism. Even within family memebers they were pressured to marry of the same lighter complexion and do not mix with the darker complexion people. These became societal norms and society set high standards for beauty within india. It was interesting learning this about India culture I knew never about this.

Reflection: today’s topic was very interesting. I knew never colorism existed in India. Now I know that this is a world wide issue. Especially in the south. My overall day was really good.
